'Locke & Key': What Happens to Gabe in Season 2?

The Locke siblings are back in Locke & Key Season 2, and the three of them have a new enemy to defeat during their latest adventure: Gabe (Griffin Gluck). The first season of the Netflix series ended on a cliffhanger that promised a disturbing path forward for Kinsey’s (Emilia Jones) boyfriend. So, how did things work out for him during the show’s latest outing?

‘Locke & Key’ Season 1 reveals Gabe is Dodge

The final moments of Locke & Key Season 1 deliver a shocking revelation about the boy Kinsey’s just chosen to date: he’s actually Dodge (Laysla De Oliveira) in disguise. And the second season of the show confirms fans’ worst fears, revealing that Gabe never existed at all. That’s right, he’s been a creation of Dodge all along.

Of course, the Locke siblings know none of this heading into Locke & Key Season 2. Gabe uses his relationship with Kinsey to manipulate the group, all in an effort to make a new key. And although his plan almost works, the group manages to unravel it — and put an end to it before it’s too late.

What happens to Gabe in ‘Locke & Key’ season 2?

So, what happens to Gabe during Locke & Key Season 2? While his master plan works at first, the Locke siblings manage to outsmart him in the end. After he successfully gets Duncan (Aaron Ashmore) to make the Demon Key for him, Gabe creates a demon army. Even with reinforcements, the Lockes find a way to stop him from turning everyone in their hometown into pawns.

Kinsey uses Gabe’s — or Dodge’s — feelings for her as a distraction while Tyler (Connor Jessup), Duncan, and Scot (Petrice Jones) break into the vault where he’s keeping the Demon Key. She pretends to jump to her death rather than join him, but she uses the Angel Key to fly away and take his magical crown from him.

When Gabe turns back into Dodge and heads toward the vault to stop the rest of the gang, Duncan discovers he can command the other demons — a side effect of making the Demon Key. The group turns Dodge’s minions against her.

The demon’s final effort to gain the upper hand sees her tearing the building down around them. Fortunately, Tyler sneaks up on her, using the Alpha Key he made with Duncan to separate the demon from her physical form. This brings Lucas’ echo back into the picture, and it appears Lucas isn’t as cruel or dangerous as the demon that’s been controlling him.

While it’s unclear if demons actually die, Tyler’s action seems to get rid of Dodge completely. Given that Gabe never actually existed, it seems Locke & Key Season 2 marks the end for Gluck’s character as well.

Of course, the series already introduced its next villain. And he might be even more dangerous than Gabe/Dodge.

The Netflix series teases a new villain for season 3

With Gabe (and Dodge) out of the picture heading into Locke & Key Season 3, the Netflix series gave fans an idea of who will become its next Big Bad. Although Eden (Hallea Jones) seemed like the obvious choice, the finale brings back Frederick Gideon (Kevin Durand), one of the British soldiers from the beginning.

After retrieving the Echo Key, Eden summons the Echo of Gideon, who has been possessed by another demon. And despite Eden’s attempt to establish herself as the leader, Gideon traps her in the same well Bode found Doge in. He then uses the Anywhere Key to go elsewhere — a scary prospect for anyone who might run into him.

Netflix has yet to reveal when the third season will arrive, so it may be a while before fans find out what Gideon is planning. However, his ruthless moments throughout season 2’s flashbacks don’t bode well for the Lockes.

Locke & Key Season 2 is currently streaming on Netflix.
