Lorraine Kelly has slammed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s current privacy court case as "embarrassing".
The pair are currently embroiled in a court case with Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL) after the media group decided to appeal a High Court ruling it unlawfully published Meghan’s letter to her dad, Thomas Markle.
It was originally published by The Mail on Sunday – and Meghan claimed copyright was breached along with her privacy on what she claims was a private letter.
And ITV host Lorraine Kelly didn’t hesitate to give her views on the matter, as she began: "We have this very bizarre story about Harry and Meghan and this court appeal.
"This could be extremely embarrassing for both of them," she added.
Speaking to royal editor Roya Nikkhah, Lorraine went on: "They were told not to pursue it, weren’t they? The royal advisors said, ‘Please don’t do this’."
Roya explained: "There is frustration within in the Royal Family at how this is playing out.
"Because before they pulled the trigger, advisors. The Queen's top lawyer said 'Think this through.'"
She continued: "'If this goes all the way, think what could come out. Text messages, disclosure all of that'."
Lorraine has expressed doubts about Meghan's letter in the past, telling royal expert Russell Myers last week: "It’s baffling to me that if you’re going to take a newspaper to court you have to be rock solid, and I know it was about the letter but there’s more things coming out about this letter that she sent to her dad calling him 'daddy'.
"I wonder why it didn’t come out beforehand. It seems really strange, the timing," she added.
The Telegraph reports that both the Duchess of Sussex and her former press secretary Jason Knauf have submitted witness statements to the court.
It has also been reported that text messages exchanged between the two could be made public in order to shed light on the letter to Thomas.
Later in Monday's programme, Lorraine said that Meghan and Harry should both return to the UK for Christmas to help ease tensions between them and the Royal Family.
As Roya said: "They’ve both got an open invite to Sandringham, and I just think it would be lovely, at Christmas, if they did come over and bring their kids and let the Queen meet her namesakes."
Lorraine responded: "Do you think that might happen?"
To which Roya replied: "I think it might be a bit tense for the family."
Lorraine joked: "Christmas is always tense for families!"
Roya said: "It would be nice for her to see them. No-one has seen Archie for a couple of years."
Lorraine ended: "Christmas can cause tension but it can also build bridges. That’s what they need to do, just get on with it."
