Luther viewers were stunned tonight as Alice Morgan made a shock return in a cliffhanger ending.
Ruth Wilson’s character supposedly ‘died’ off-screen when she was drowned by Megan, who revealed all at the start of season 4.
But the psychopath made a dramatic return in the final moments of the series 5 opener.
After hearing a frantic knock on the door, terrified Luther headed downstairs with a gun behind his bag.
He looked like he had seen a ghost when Alice appeared, then said: "Watcha!"
In the trailer for Wednesday night’s episode, Alice and Luther were seen working together.
Alice was holding a gun as she hid from DSU Martin Schenk on the other side of the door.
She then repeatedly stabbed a man, which caused the car they were in to crash.
Ruth Wilson has previously spoken about her return to the hit BBC series.
"We find that Alice isn’t actually dead," she said talking to Digital Spy .
"Things have all gone a bit wrong, so she’s come back to get Luther’s help."
Wilson also said Alice is "back with a vengeance" – and is (somehow) darker than ever.
"She’s funnier than ever; she’s more lethal than ever and she and Luther get up to some dastardly things," she said. "This season we certainly see a lot more to Alice."
And if you’re wondering if we’ll get any answers as to what happened Elba said: "I think I can say, safely, that we answer that in this season."
Excited Luther viewers took to Twitter after watching the first episode of the new series.
One viewer said: "Aaaaaah she’s back! No it can’t end there!"
"ALICE IS ALIVE YAY," added another.
A third said: "Yes! That was AWESOME! Helloooooo Alice!"
*Luther continues tomorrow night on BBC One at 9pm
