Strictly Come Dancing fans were shocked last weekend when The Wanted singer Max George and Maisie Smith ended up fighting it out in the bottom-two together despite having already shown huge promise and being early favourites to win the series. However, Maisie landing in the dance-off stood out as being particularly surprising to viewers, who have seen the starlet top the leaderboard more than once. Former pro, James Jordan, has explained he believes Maisie will always be able to make it through if she finds herself in the situation again due to the fact she is “too good”.

Maisie and Gorka Marquez have shown they’re a dynamic duo throughout the competition so far.

And the pair have consistently remained a force to be reckoned with as the contest continues.

But they were dealt a surprise blow last weekend when they were placed in the bottom two alongside Max George.

Luckily, the pair were saved but now, one former pro – James Jordan – has given his thoughts on how Maisie will fare.

James has explained he believes the pair will “be saved” in the dance-off as she is one of “the best” dancers left.

Speaking to Ladbrokes, he said: “I didn’t agree with either of them being in the bottom two last weekend based on their dancing, but you never know what the public is going to vote for.”

He also hit out at the teen’s critics after some viewers accused Maisie of being “too cocky” as she continues to excel on the ballroom.

“Some people are saying Maisie’s cocky, but I don’t agree with that, she’s 19 so, give her a break for goodness sake.”

However, he went on to add: “Admittedly it wasn’t a great dance for her, she was a bit stiff and a bit rigid.

“The Cha-Cha is an easy dance to learn but a tough dance to master. It wasn’t exciting and it wasn’t fun, it was kind of average which is why I think she ended up in the bottom two.

“She is too good to go home, though, so I don’t think she’ll be leaving anytime soon because whoever she is up against she’ll be saved as she will be one of the best dancers left in the competition.

“The right person [Max] left who was in the bottom two, but would I have had those two couples in the bottom two? Absolutely not,” he noted.

Fans have commented on the seemingly harsh criticism Maisie has been given from the judging panel.

Last night, some watching at home were left confused when Maisie and JJ Chalmers were awarded the same scores from Shirley Ballas and Anton Du Beke.

The judging pair gave them both nines but Craig Revel Horwood gave JJ seven points.

But fans were not convinced by the verdict from Shirley and Anton after it was noted JJ’s dance did contain more errors.

One commented: “SHIRLEY AND ANTON MARKING JJ THE SAME AS MAISIE ????????? #strictly.”

“If Maisie is in the dance-off again it just proves my point that UK audiences don’t like confident young women #Strictly,” said another.

A third wrote: “Shirley giving HRVY the same score as Maisie when he made mistakes is a joke, you can tell he’s her favourite #Strictly.”

Another noted: “She was fantastic and deserves 10’s. Other dance couples get 10s for less… #Strictly.”
