For the past five seasons, fans of Outlander from the UK have become accustomed to tuning into the show using Amazon Prime, however, the announcement of the series’ new home caused a major frenzy online. After it was stated by actor Sam Heughan, fans took to his comments to share their dismay
Sam, who plays fan-favourite Jamie Fraser on the Scottish series, took to Instagram to share the news.
The actor shared a video from the series and in the caption, it read: “I am excited to announce that STARZPLAY is not only the home of @meninkiltsstarz.
He shared: “But will also be the new home for that other show set in Scotland @outlander_starz !!!”
“Stay tuned to @Starzplayuk for all of the latest news! Welcome home Sassenach!” he concluded.
An Amazon Prime monthly membership in the UK costs £7.99, but can also be worked down to £6.58 per month if viewers choose to pay £79 per year.
However, if fans would like to only use the video service Amazon provides it can cost £5.99 a month, without the additional exclusive deals.
Outlander’s new home of Starzplay will cost fans £4.99 per month and they currently have a deal that offers a six-month membership for £1.99.
Despite this, fans were fuming at the thought of the show moving from Amazon and took to Sam’s Instagram comments to complain.
MyThor wrote: “Not so good news for your UK fans, which means Amazon Prime subscribers have to pay extra for streaming under Starzplay.”
Stevie complained: “Absolutely ridiculous – another subscription service required to watch, very disappointing.”
Feychild added: “Terrible, we have had five seasons on Amazon Prime, we will now have to pay for Starz as well.
“This is rubbish news, I don’t want to pay for another subscription,” Melanie stated.
Another viewer Natalie was fuming and explained: “I’m sorry this isn’t good news, I’ll have to pay an extra subscription when previously I could watch it on Amazon which I have got, not everybody is made of money you know.
Whereas Avril found a way around the move and wrote: “I already have Virgin & Prime, not paying for Starz as well, Christmas present sorted, hubby, will have to get me the DVDs.
One fan asked: “So, it won’t air new episodes on Amazon anymore without the starz play app?”
To which STARZ responded: “Outlander will continue to stream on Prime Video until later this year.
The streaming platform explained: “After it moves to STARZPLAY you can sign up directly on Prime Video. You can also access it via the STARZPLAY APP or with any of our other partner platforms.”
The upcoming sixth season will only have eight episodes but showrunners have a 90-minute premiere episode planned.
It was previously announced the upcoming season will a shorter number of episodes due to the challenges of filming,
To make up for it, the series team have promised season seven will have 16 episodes, which will be filmed next year.
Outlander season six premieres on Starz and Starzplay in 2022.
