Starz drama series Power Book II: Ghost will be airing its midseason finale at the end of the week. The show only started recently but the 10-part series has already reached the halfway point. Tariq St Patrick (played by Michael Rainey Jr) has picked up the reins from his late father James “Ghost” St Patrick (Omari Hardwick) as the college student unwittingly begins to follow in the drug dealer’s footsteps.

Why doesn’t Monet know who Ghost St Patrick is in Power?

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Power Book II: Ghost

Tariq is desperately trying to spare his mother Tasha St Patrick (Naturi Naughton) from the death penalty after ex-FBI attorney Cooper Saxe (Shane Johnson) decided to target her.

The resourceful and whip-smart Tariq managed to get top attorney Davis Maclean (Cliff “Method Man” Smith) representing Tasha in the hopes of saving her.

However, it all came at a price as Tariq had to go back into the drug game and drum up the funds for the legal fees given Davis didn’t come cheap.

Tariq recently realised his best shot of running his side hustle was to team up with Monet Tejada (Mary J. Blige).

Monet decided to take Tariq on as a business partner and use him to sell product, however, she is highly suspicious of him.

She has already had her associates look at Tariq’s background and she thinks he could be trouble.

In the forthcoming episode of Book II: Ghost she even gets others to look into Tariq’s past but the only thing coming up is those around the youngster either are in jail or dead.

While this isn’t a promising sign, there isn’t even a hint of Ghost’s legacy surrounding Tariq, which is a good thing.

Nonetheless fans have been left perplexed by all of this and want answers about why Monet doesn’t seem to know anything about Ghost or the St Patricks.

Surely, if they are both in the narcotics business, Monet should know who her potential rivals and allies are?

Also, Ghost and Monet were operating in close proximity to one another, so they must have had some knowledge about one another.

Power’s creator Courtney Kemp has addressed this possible plot hole during a recent Instagram Live chat via Cheat Sheet.

She said: “People have been asking this question and I think it’s kind of interesting.”

The acclaimed writer continued: “You guys were in the show, so you saw that James St. Patrick and Ghost were the same person.

“But if you only know Ghost by reputation, then you only know the name ‘Ghost.’

“Until the two ideas Ghost and St. Patrick are connected, for Monet and Lorenzo, James St. Patrick is just the guy who was running for lieutenant governor.”

She added: “They don’t know what you guys know and they don’t know what the prosecutors know.”

Kemp’s words do make sense to a degree as viewers delved deep into the world of Ghost and saw behind the scenes.

But to the outside world, he was actually succeeding to reinvent himself and moving away from his life on the streets.

Therefore, his death was all the more tragic because of how far he’d come to build a new life for himself but ultimately it caught up with him.

From the looks of it, Monet could finally learn Tariq’s true identity later, which could have huge repercussions of its own.
