Meghan Markle might be a finding her stride as the newest member of the British Royal Family, but she’s also a pregnant newlywed who is very much in love with her husband, Prince Harry. Therefore like many of us, Valentine’s Day is kind of a big deal to the duchess. Though she’s obviously a romantic who loves to engage in PDA with her red-headed hubby–Markle’s first Valentine’s Day as a married royal might have been a little different then she expected. This is how the Duchess of Sussex spent Valentine’s Day.

This is how Meghan Markle spent Valentine’s Day
Unfortunately, due to their busy schedules, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were unable to spend all of Valentine’s Day together. While the duchess got to stay at home at Kensington Palace for some much-needed rest and relaxation–Prince Harry had a full and frigid day of work.
The prince headed to Bardufoss, Norway –the Arctic Circle by private jet where he participated in extreme cold weather training with British troops. Luckily, the troops knew he was probably missing his wife, so they decorated an igloo with photos of the prince and Markle. The igloo also had soft music playing and some lit candles which the prince thought was quite hilarious. He said, “You weirdos. It’s very kind of you to invite me into your private shrine or whatever you want to call it. And the music, is that part of it? Romantic isn’t it.”
Luckily, Prince Harry was back home with his wife by 5 p.m., and it looks like the parents-to-be had a romantic night in. Markle probably cooked a delicious dinner for the both of them. After all, Markle’s philosophy on the big day is, “it is the thought that counts.”

Meghan Markle’s ideal Valentine’s Day
Even before she met Prince Harry– Meghan Markle has been a sucker for Valentine’s Day. Back in 2015 on her now-defunct lifestyle blog, The Tig — the Duchess of Sussex described her ideal Valentine’s Day. At the time she said she was single and in a “funk.” She said,
Hook, line and sinker, I am such a sucker for Valentine’s Day. Without fail, every February 14th, I wake up feeling like I’m immersed in a Robert Doisneau photo, waiting with bated breath to be dipped into a kiss. This is all happening in black and white, of course. And in Paris, if I had my way. But delusions of Francophile grandeur aside, Valentine’s Day is special wherever you happen to find yourself. And in terms of gifts, be it breakfast in bed, a sweet love note, or a single flower, it really is the thought that counts.
Markle also noted that even as a single gal –“I want to treat myself as well as I treat those dearest to me. Because I am my own funny Valentine.” Look how quickly things have changed.
