Stephanie Davis reveals she 'tried to kill herself' as she opens up about battle with depression and booze before Hollyoaks return

Good Morning Britain viewers praised the actress's bravery as she opened up today about her problems before he return to Hollyoaks, which will be aired tonight.

She also spoke about getting support from Paul Gascoigne.

Speaking about her mental health struggles, Stephanie – who has one-year-old son Caben-Albi with ex Jeremy McConnell – said: "I was an empty, lost soul".

She revealed that she was sat on her stairs with her mum and auntie when she realised she needed help for alcoholism, which she had previously thought only happened to "homeless people".

The 25-year-old star – who first appeared in Hollyoaks in 2010 before being sacked three years ago – added: "I don't love myself, and my mum wanted to shake me as she couldn't understand why. I was so lonely and suicidal. I was depressed."

She even admitted that she had tried to kill herself when she reached her lowest point before seeking the help she desperately needed.

The actress spoke about the moment she hit rock bottom and her friendship with Paul Gascoigne on the sow earlier todayStephanie also explained her unlikely friendship with former footballer Paul Gascoigne as, "addicts can really help other addicts, as they know what they are going through".

Steph admitted herself to rehab back in December last year when she split with fellow Big Brother star Jeremy McConnell for good.

She said: "I was sat on my stairs with my mum and my aunty one day and I just gave up, something switched in my head and I was like, I need to go to rehab, I need help.

"I went on my journey and it was really hard. I've had to do a lot of work on myself but it's been worth it."

Those watching at home took to Twitter to praise Stephanie for her "honesty" in talking about her mental health.

It comes as her explosive return to Hollyoaks as Sinead has been teased in a new trailer.

The actress is back just in time to cause havoc at Ste Hay and Harry Thompson’s wedding.

Earlier this month the Stephanie admitted she would be “dead and buried” if it wasn’t for her son Caben Albi.

When she finished treatment, Stephanie had turned her life around and credits her 21-month year old son for saving her.

Speaking to OK! Magazine, she said: “Although I look after him, he’s looked after me more than he knows.

“I was so suicidal, but he kept me going. He’s my little angel and I’ll be honest with him about everything.

"I’m proud of my journey and I’m glad that I’m an addict because the programme makes you a better person.”
