Strictly Come Dancing fans had an extra surprise on Saturday night as show judge Craig Revel Horwood transformed into a Victorian era lady for a sensational drag performance.
The 54-year-old star of the long running BBC dance competition put on a show stopping performance as the musicals themed quarter final episode of the 2019 series aired.
Viewers watched as the dance professionals took to the floor to whip through a number of songs and dance routines from famous musicals.
But it was Craig’s turn as Dolly Levi from the iconic musical comedy Hello, Dolly! that truly stole the show – with many unable to believe the judge could drag himself up so well.
Craig burst onto the dance floor with a dazzling grin, skipped across the floor, then hitched up his skirt to clim a giant cake and belt out some lines from the musical’s title song.
And fans couldn’t get enough of his star turn – with many taking to Twitter to express joy and pleasure in equal measure.
“Catching up on #Strictly and Craig I didn't think I could love you more but wow that was brilliant,” tweeted one fan.
“I loved Craig in Drag, gorgeous!” tweeted another.
While a further wrote: “Loving Craig in drag on #Strictly tonight. @michellevisage you may not have won, but the legacy you’ve left with the show and the BBC is SO much more important. Be proud. You’re amazing.”
Many viewers interpreted Craig’s turn as a drag performer as a reaction to the fact some viewers had complained about a same sex performance the week before.
“Strictly's response to the complaints about two men dancing together? put Craig Revel Horwood in drag during a massive jazz hands Hello Dolly number. TAKE A BOW,” one fan gushed.
While another wrote all the camp aspects of Saturday night's show were a reaction, tweeting: "just now caught up with yesterday’s musical extravaganza on #Strictly and wow, two fingers up to the 189 with kelvin’s camptastic gaston and of course dame craig in full drag!"
Craig has performed in drag before – with a star turn as Miss Hannigan in a 2017 production of Annie which bagged him rave reviews from critics and theatre goers alike.
