Strictly Come Dancing star and professional boxer Nicola Adams has vowed to take on the traditional male lead role in her same-sex dances with her female partner on the 2020 series this winter.
The Olympian plans on being the first ever female contestant not to wear the infamous sequin dresses on the dance floor, which are normally seen on the hit BBC show.
Instead she will wear trouser suits as she revealed that ‘dresses aren’t her thing’.
Nicola, 37, said: “Pro dancers dance with people of the same sex all the time; you dance in a nightclub with your friends.
“I just wanted to break down the thing of it being a big deal when it’s not really a big deal.”
Admitting she is aware there be a small section of the public who won’t be happy seeing a same sex couple dance on prime time TV, Nicola said: “There’s always going to be people who don’t like you but I’ve got a lot of people who do.”
Last year Strictly was praised after two of their professional dancers – Johannes Radebe and Graziano Di Prima – performed a routine together.
Away from Strictly Nicola, who is dating model Ella Baig, 22, is keen to see the landscape of TV evolve and is calling for more women’s sports to be aired on mainstream channels.
“The only time that you really get to see a lot of women’s sport is when the Olympics is on and I think we should show a lot more of it,” she said.

While she is content with appearing on prime time TV for now, Nicola’s “absolute dream” now she is retired from boxing is making it in Hollywood as a movie star.
The gold medalist says she hopes to play “a superhero in a Marvel movie” one day.
Nicola was previously asked to do stunt work for 2018 mega-hit Black Panther, though due to her intense training schedule wasn’t able to commit to the job.
Rather than take on a current superhero, she says she wants a new one to be created for her to play.
