The Masked Singer is now five contestants down, and fans of the ITV show think they know who Doughnuts is. The former professional footballer Michael Owen has been outed by fans due to not making his clues as discreet as he could have.
Performing Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline on the weekend’s show has sealed the deal for some fans of the show.
The series started with 12 celebrities singing for their life, with Keane’s Tom Chaplin being the most recent to be unmasked as the colourful Poodle.
Making his debut on the show, singing Eye Of The Tiger by Survivor, some fans don’t need to see Doughnuts perform again as they have the sweet treat’s identity solved.
From one Michael to another, a fan of the show tweeted: “Doughnuts is without a doubt Michael Owen.”

Julie chirped up with “I’m with you on Michael Owen!” where Jamie thought it was between two other footballers “[Peter] Crouch or David James.”
Proud of his performance, Doughnuts said: “My career has seen me reach some dizzying heights. You’re not going to believe some of the opportunities I’ve had.”
Trying to mix up performances, they also produced a fan-pleasing performance of the Spice Girls hit cult song Spice Up Your Life.
Viewers of the show think that Doughnuts’ voice matches that of the footballer, and when partnered with clues, he has given such as being “extra speedy” and “‘never been the lazy sort”, that he is a shoo-in for the pastry.
Not realising fans could actually bet on the show, Richard said, “If you could bet on #TheMaskedSingerUK I’d put my house on Doughnuts being Michael Owen.”
Even fellow celebs were getting in on the guessing game as Anthony Costa from the boyband Blue said: “Doughnuts is Michael Owen you can hear his voice, made a name for himself against Argentina in the World Cup 98 (he burst on the scene) #makedsingeruk @MaskedSingerUKand this song was the song for the euros.”
Replying to Anthony, mega fan Mrs B picked up on a clue many missed and said: “100% in his first clue package he turned the oven to 150.. the amount of goals he scored in the prem.”
The judges seem to be hot on the masked performer’s scent, with Michael’s name being thrown around a few times by them.
On the character’s “stoking up a fire” comment judge Jonathan Ross believed this was a reference to Stoke FC, who Michael played for between 2012-2013.
Popstar Rita Ora also observed that in episode five, Doughnuts mentioned coaching and reinvesting in the youth.
Last but certainly not least, comedian Mo Gilligan has picked up on the Argentina flag clue and how it matches Michael’s famous goal against the team.
A few other footballers have also been lumped in with Michael to be the secret performer with the likes of Alan Shearer, Robbie Fowler (who Davina thinks it could be), and Chris Kamara joining him.
Singer Tom Chaplin has joined other foiled celebrities Pat Cash, Will Young, Gloria Hunniford and Heather Small.
On Saturday, the hopefuls got to pick their own song for the first time in the competition.
So far, the show has two female winners, with fans wanting to know who will snatch the crown this year.
Girls Aloud’s Nicola Roberts won the first season as Queen Bee and Joss Stone one last year as Sausages.
The Masked Singer continues every Saturday at 7 pm on ITV
