AS HE says goodbye to the White House, Donald Trump handed out presidential pardons to a number of celebrities.
Names on the list include Steve Bannon and former Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, as well as rappers Lil Wayne and Kodak Black.
Who is Kodak Black?
Born Bill Kahan Kapri on June 11, 1997, the 23-year-old rapper is better known by his stage name Kodak Black.
Aged just 17,he gained initial recognition with his single No Flockin, released in 2014.
Kodak then wowed fans with his debut album Painting Pictures in 2017.
While incarcerated, he released his third studio album Bill Israel (2020).
Why was Kodak Black pardoned by Trump?
The rapper was due to serve a lengthy prison sentence that was expected to end in November 2022.
The official White House statement addressing Kodak Black’s pardon acknowledged the support he has received from fellow musicians including Gucci Mane, Lil Pump and Lil Yachty.
“Before his conviction and after reaching success as a recording artist, Kodak Black became deeply involved in numerous philanthropic efforts,” the statement said.
“In fact, he has committed to supporting a variety of charitable efforts, such as providing educational resources to students and families of fallen law enforcement officers and the underprivileged.”
Trump's 73 last-minute pardons and 70 commuted sentences didn't include any family members and other names that were touted to be under consideration – including Trump himself and his lawyer Rudy Giuliani.
A senior administration official told Reuters that no member of Trump's family, nor the president or his lawyer, would be pardoned.
Why was Kodak Black in jail?
Kodak Black was sentenced to 48 months in prison in June 2020 on federal weapons charges in 2019.
He confessed to lying about purchasing several firearms in background check forms.
Police later found two firearms linked to the rapper at crime scenes.
Who is Kodak Black dating?
It is believed Kodak is currently single.
He obviously hasn't been dating, as he has been in jail since June 2020.
His last longterm relationship was with Instagram model Jayda Cheaves.
