X Factor loses Misunderstood and Gio in a Movie Week double elimination

X Factor Movie Week – or The Greatest Showman singalong – provided lots of great performances, though it didn’t stop the brutal double elimination.

But first, in honour of 100 years since the end of World War One, the X Factor paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the wars, by inviting some veterans into the audience.

The first elimination of the week was a huge shock for the audience, when Misunderstood were announced as the act with the least number of votes after their performance of ‘Maniac’ from Flashdance.

Dermot said it was “a huge shock” and noted that they were early favourites to win the competition.

They said: “We do this for the people who can’t be themselves. We have been ourselves the whole way through the show.”

Nile Rodgers, who is standing in for judge Robbie Williams, was also shocked that the duo were eliminated.

“I’m totally blown away, I didn’t expect that at all,” he said.

The second elimination was between Acacia & Aaliyah and Gio, who battled it out in an impressive sing off.

Gio took to the stage first with Robbie Williams’ ‘Let Me Entertain You’ before Acacia & Aaliyah performed a mash up of K-Ci & JoJo’s ‘All My Life’ and Skepta’s ‘Shutdown’.

The second act to leave the competition was Gio after Nile, Louis and Simon decided to send him home.

He said thanks to the other contestants who he called “family” and also thanked X Factor staff from “the top to the very bottom each and everyone of you are incredible”.

He then added: “I’ll say this right into this camera, rock and roll is alive and well, and you know where to find him.”

Judge Ayda was sad to see him go: “He is one of the nicest humans I’ve ever met, incredible entertainer. I’m shocked.”

Next week, the remaining contestants are going to The Proms, so that will be one to watch.

The X Factor continues next Saturday Night (November 17) on ITV.
