Katherine Ryan speaks out on ‘dangerous comic’ during radio appearance

Katherine Ryan has discussed an unnamed "dangerous comic", whom she alleges is a "perpetrator of sexual assault."

The comedian, 40, opened up about how she worked with the unnamed male comic in the past during an appearance on Radio 4's Desert Island Discs.

Explaining how she had had to choose between either turning down work or working with the comedian, Katherine said: "I had a choice – I could go to work with someone who I believe to be a perpetrator of sexual assault or I could turn down the job. Those were my options.

Revealing that she chose to still take the job, Katherine continued: "My compromise was I'm going to go and let him know under no uncertain terms what I think of him.

"I'm not just going to allow this behaviour, I'm not going to let him think that I don't know and that everybody he works with is just going to let him get away with it. So that is the attitude I took into the show."

Katherine, who previously spoke about the same situation to documentarian Louis Theroux, added that she regularly gets asked why she hasn't named names, to which she explained that "everyone knows who it is" and what people really want to know is the names of the women.

Speaking about this to Louis, 53, Katherine had explained that she had confronted the comedian "again and again" when they worked together and that she would have no qualms doing so again.

She had also told the broadcaster that one reason she hadn't named names was because it was a "litigious minefield" as the individual in question had "very good lawyers."

Katherine's appearance on Desert Island Discs was released today (1 October) but was recorded last month.

Since the recording, rape and abuse allegations were publicly made against comedian turned political activist Russell Brand, with whom Katherine had appeared on Roast Battle in 2018.

It has since been reported that Russell, 48, was the comic who Katherine had discussed, with Deadline reporting that she had confronted him on-camera but that this had not made it into the show's final edit.

Russell was not invited back for the second series of the show, with a source telling Deadline: "Contract negotiations were made as tricky as possible.

"In the end, it came down to the fact that it seemed like Russell didn’t have a good sense of humour. He didn’t feel he was fair game."

A TV insider added that he had been left "furious" at Katherine's comments and had "demanded" the producers but a stop to this.

Russell has denied all the claims made against him, and has said that all of his relationships were "consensual."
