Strictly Come Dancing pays tribute to Tina Turner

Amy Dowden pulled out all the stops to deliver a show-stopping performance on Strictly Come Dancing this evening, in spite of her ongoing battle with breast cancer.

The surprise appearance took place just weeks after she vowed that she’d make it back onto the show – and that BBC bosses were already looking into possible wigs for her as she battles chemotherapy-related hair loss.

Sharing snaps of herself with fellow pros such as Dianne Buswell and Nikita Kuzmin, the 33-year-old star looked absolutely stunning and elated to be in the public eye again.

She shared the news in an emotional post on Instagram in view of 560,000 followers just three hours before her electrifying appearance in the opening number of tonight’s Strictly show was unveiled.

“Tune in tonight for the first results show of the series!” she encouraged fans, adding: “The standard this year is insane!”

Addressing her recent health battle, which saw her contract sepsis in August due to a weakened immune system from chemotherapy, she urged: “There’s no text book or right/ wrong way to deal with your cancer journey.

“Everyone deals with it rightly their way. I’m so lucky to be surrounded by so much support which I don’t take for granted and days like here is what keeps me going.”

The courageous professional dancer concluded: “I’m dreaming every night of dancing on that floor again but right now I’m my fellow pros’ proudest and biggest cheerleader!”

The photos she posted suggested that the other members of the Strictly cast were elated to be reunited with her, even if just for a short period so far.

She was inundated with support from fans, while co-star Dianne Buswell cheekily joked: “Can’t wait for you to be back i miss you chewing my ear off with just classic Amy chit chat!”

Vito Coppola was another celebrity in the comments, urging: “Waiting for you to come back with us. JUST LOVE YOU AMY. I want to Hug youuuuu!”

Meanwhile, Les Dennis was the first celebrity contestant to be evicted from Strictly this year, after failing to impress with his and Nancy Xu’s samba to ‘Rock The Boat’ by Hues Corporation.

After the dance-off, judge Anton du Beke stated: “I thought it was a competition of two couples on performance alone and who could really nail their performance. I think the couple who did the best job were Nikita [Kanda] and Gorka [Marquez].”
