Annabel Croft admits she sobbed when she heard song
Could Strictly Come Dancing star Annabel Croft be at a higher chance of winning the Glitterball trophy due to her lack of dance experience? Over the years, the likes of Hamza Yassin and Stacey Dooley, have won the show despite having little or no knowledge of dance beforehand.
Now, with just five couples left in the quarter-final, ex professional Aljaž Škorjanec is backing the pair for the win as he pointed out the 57-year-old is the only contestant left in the competition to not be from a showbiz or dance background. He spilled: “I feel with the ones who are left in the competition, I really love watching Annabel and Johannes. I think she’s getting so good and so much better every single week and I love some dances they’ve performed.
“I love that she’s one of the only ones left who hasn’t had any previous dance experience, so it’s nice to see someone go from zero to here, and make it all the way to the quarter finals.” Each year, those with a background in dance tend to be seen as having an advantage against those who don’t.
This year, contestant Layton Williams has faced the most criticism having been on the West End for 16 years. Despite many claiming he already knows what he’s doing, the Bad Education star has stressed just how out of touch he is with Ballroom and Latin, and therefore is learning like a beginner.

His words were backed by former 2019 contestant Karim Zeroual who recently said it’s harder for a trained dancer to learn the show’s dance style, as they need to “untrain” themselves from what they already know. On whether he believes those with dance experience have a lower chance of winning, Aljaz continued: “I don’t think there’s such a rule that that’s likely, I would say that there’s so many, that it’s hard to get to the last stage of the competition if you haven’t had any.
“I think that’s maybe the case, but no, I don’t think it’s harder or easier to win, you’re just going to have to do your best dance every single week. It all depends now on what dances they do towards the end, rather than how good they are.

“If a certain style they have suits them and they’re lucky to have that dance, then they can get voted through to next week.” He went on to say the trophy could go to any couple this year as it’s a “tight” competition. Many have called for Annabel to claim the trophy due to her improvement week by week as a beginner.
One viewer wrote: “Do you know what, I think I’d love to see @Annabel_Croft and @jojo_radebe take the glitterball. Probs won’t happen, but the journey she’s been on with no dance experience, to how she dances now has been great to watch. And they’re a beautiful partnership. #Strictly.” A second commented: “Vote for @krishgm as I have done every week & also @Annabel_Croft, two complete novices who have no previous dance experience.”
A third added: “So pleased Annabel and Johannes got through. Annabel’s improvement is astounding and is the definition of what #Strictly is all about. Hope she makes the final.” Former Strictly dancer Kevin Clifton previously said the public are more likely to vote for an “underdog” than someone with experience, and suggested this is why Stacey beat the likes of popstars Faye Tozer and Ashley Roberts in 2018.
“I think everyone loved them and enjoyed what they were doing. I don’t think anyone had anything against them but to inspire someone to get behind them. It’s a funny thing in this country, I think we love an underdog. Someone who’s really good from the beginning, we immediately take against them,” he spilled on the Disruptive Entrepreneur Podcast.
