The Apprentice winner says contestants are ‘cut off’ with just ‘one call a week’

The Apprentice: Harpreet wins the 2022 series

Harpreet Kaur has revealed that contestants on BBC’s The Apprentice are “completely cut off” from the outside world and are only allowed “one 10 minute call a week.”

The desserts business owner, who bagged herself a £250,000 investment from Lord Sugar in the 2022 series, spoke exclusively with Express.co.uk about moving her company in a new direction.

She also revealed what truly goes on behind the scenes on the BBC show, saying that the candidates go through “tough situations” off camera.

“We were completely cut off, which I think adds to the pressure,” she recalled.

“In real life, you go through tough situations, but you have a support network around you to get you through them.

“You get one phone call a week.”

Harpreet said that she is very family-orientated, so she found being away from home very challenging.

“For me it was emotional.I was really missing my family and my sister.”

After winning the 2022 series, Harpreet started dating her series co-star Akshay Thakrar and the pair are now engaged.

Despite a relationship ban imposed on the house, the dedicated business owner said that she and Akshay “hardly ever spent time together” on the show.

“We were never working together on tasks. I then picked him to be in my team for the final because I just thought he might be assertive. And it seemed like one of the strongest candidates to me,” she shared.

Harpreet is now embarking on a new chapter and has teamed up with Hilton London Metropole in order to grow her business.

Speaking about the partnership, she said: “There’s nothing sweeter than seeing our Cookie Cups available to buy at Hilton London Metropole – it’s truly a dream collaboration and to have the opportunity to work alongside such an iconic hotel is incredible.”
