Coronation Street and Emmerdale in huge schedule shake-up as they’re pulled from regular slots

Coronation Street and Emmerdale are set to face even more schedule changes now it's the final week of September as ITV's stalwart soaps are set to clash with the channel's coverage of the Rugby World Cup.

Starting from yesterday, Monday 25 September, fans of the cobbles and the Dales now need to amend when they get settled in front of the TV.

Coronation Street's normal schedule sees the soap airing on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, but this week the soap is airing Tuesday (today) in a one-off hour-long episode.

This is to compensate for the soap being taken off-air on Friday 29 September, as it would clash with the match between New Zealand and Italy at 7.30pm.

Emmerdale, which now airs at 7.30pm on weekdays, will be airing slightly earlier at 7pm on Friday.

On Monday 2 October, scheduling will be back to normal, with Corrie and Emmerdale in its usual time-slots once more.

The Rugby World Cup has already caused some shake-ups for the beloved soaps, as the France and New Zealand game on Friday 8 September meant that the dynamic duo were forced to fit around it.

And while the tournament could cause yet more movement in the schedules, fans can't yet plan around it as TV line-ups are only released a week in advance.

The Rugby World Cup final is set to air on Saturday 28 October.

It's already been a huge week for the soap world as the Inside Soap Awards 2023 saw some major winners on Monday.

EastEnders was the notable star of the show, with the likes of Lola Pearce star Danielle Harold taking home the gong for best actress, and her on-screen husband Jay Brown actor Jamie Borthwick nabbing best actor.

The BBC One soap also took best storyline for Lola's devastating cancer storyline, but ITV didn't lose out.

Emmerdale won for best family with the iconic Dingle tribe, and Marlon and Paddy Dingle won best partnership.

Coronation Street's Maureen Lipman also won an award, along with notable wins for Hollyoaks and Doctors.

Man of the moment Nigel Harman, who stole the show on the Strictly Come Dancing dance floor Saturday night, also won best drama actor for his role of Dr Max Cristie on Casualty.

Nigel is originally and best known for playing heartthrob Dennis Rickman on EastEnders, before his character was sadly killed off in a dramatic New Year storyline.

Emmerdale continues weekdays at 7pm, and Coronation Street airs at 7.30pm on ITV
