Just one day after Emmerdale was hit with yet another tragedy as Victor Anderson was found dead in the church, his son Charles admitted he was partially responsible for the reformed criminal’s death.
As regular viewers will know, tensions had been running high between Victor and Charles in recent weeks, following Victor’s release from prison for theft.
Unhappy with how he had wormed himself back in his mum’s good graces, Charles resorted to desperate measures to try and get rid of him once and for all, when he framed his father for the theft of Manpreet’s necklace.
Fearing the prospect of being in breach of his probation, Victor fled despite his innocence and later sought refuge in the church.
However in a cruel twist, the stress from the experience caused a brain aneurysm to rupture and killed Victor instantly.
Wrestling with the guilt of his role in his death on Wednesday, Charles admitted to Manpreet that he had planted the necklace in order to try and get rid of Victor, but insisted he hadn’t intended for his father to die.
Fans at home were horrified by the admission, although many viewers at home had predicted the turn of events given his behaviour over the past few weeks.
Taking to social media to share their thoughts, one fan wrote: “Charles is a proper low life stitching his old man up…..”
While a second fan added: “Omg Chuck stole the necklace, I’m so shocked, I mean it was totally obvious and everyone called it the moment it happened, but still omg shock.”
Before a third viewer commented: "I thought Charles might've set Victor up with the necklace, but finding out for sure he did is like a deflated balloon with Victor dead. Pointless."
One fan also feared the fallout if Charles’ mother Claudette were to find out the truth, as he had only just been getting to know her estranged husband.
They wrote: “Oh Charles! Wait till your mama finds out you stitched up her Victor…… Gonna need more than God to help you outta that.”
Several fans also didn't hold back as they criticised how quickly the mystery had been solved, with less than a day between Charles' confession and Victor's unexpected death.
"Really? One day? I guess that solved that then," commented one fan.
A second also agreed adding: "So much for a mystery, what even was the point of that?"
Emmerdale continues weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV and ITVX
