John Cleese slams GB News one day before show launch after Boris Johnson news

John Cleese said he can “hardly believe” GB News’ decision to hire former Prime Minister Boris Johnson as its newest presenter.

John, 84, has been preparing for months to make his GB News debut on Sunday, and took to social media on Saturday to criticise the channel for its latest decision.

The Fawlty Towers star’s new show The Dinosaur Hour has been in the works for some time and is launching tomorrow, but taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, John retweeted a comment about Johnson joining and added: “I can hardly believe that GB News will give this proven serial liar his own programme.”

Johnson is the latest Conservative politician to take a job at the broadcaster, which he announced in a video on X.

The 59-year-old explained: “I’m excited to say that I’m shortly going to be joining you on GB News, and I’m going to be giving this remarkable new TV channel my unvarnished views on everything from Russia, China, the war in Ukraine, how we meet all those challenges, to the huge opportunities that lie ahead for us – why I think our best days are yet to come – and why on the whole the people of the world want to see more global Britain, not less”.

John has recently expressed excitement for his 10-part series, having tweeted weeks ago: “Less than two weeks to go!”

His latest remarks slamming the channel saw a mixed response from his fans.

@SleepyPenguin1 responded: “Yeh… I’ve been thinking the same thing. That a pathological liar like #BorisJohnson shouldn’t be allowed to appear on TV at all.”

@Norv675 asked: “What did you expect from GB News?”

@JasonGreen464 penned: “On this I agree with John, the man was given the trust of the voters and utterly failed to deliver anything.”

“You have the chance to not do a show for them and gain some integrity back,” blokethatplays added.

@colinianking remarked: “For GB news he’s the perfect presenter, Boris reflects their brand perfectly.”

John has been vocal about his dislike for the BBC in recent years and just days ago hit out at the broadcaster’s bosses once again.

After a 2019 tweet resurfaced on Friday, John shared his thoughts, writing: “This demonstrates the utter gutlessness of the current BBC top brass, whose only aim in life is to hang on to jobs they could get nowhere else.

“What destroys people’s trust in politics is lying. Not pointing it out is complicity.”
