The Serpent: Jenna Coleman stars in BBC series trailer
Prime Video thriller Wilderness sees married couple Liv (played by Jenna Coleman) and Will (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) embark on a dream holiday, but things quickly take an ominous turn.
The series is based on the 2019 novel of the same name by B (Bev) E Jones, and in this Liv is Welsh.
Therefore, Jenna takes on a Welsh accent for the role, which sees Liv using the trip as an opportunity to take revenge on Will, who she recently discovered has been having an affair.
Unfortunately, early reviews, including one in Culture Whisper, have deemed Jenna’s attempt at the enunciation “unconvincing”.
However, the Welsh background of Liv is one of the main elements from the book which made it to the screen.

Speaking to Radio Times, the show’s creator Marnie Dickens revealed the on-screen story “takes quite a big detour from the book”.
She continued: “Bev’s been very supportive of us doing what you need to do with an adaptation, which is working out what works and then building out from that.
“The central premise of the ‘young British couple going on this road trip to try and patch up their relationship but she’s got ulterior motives,’ is very much there.
“The big twist, which I obviously won’t go into, is from the book, and then the rest is just built out with a lot of elbow grease.”

Prior to the couple’s trip around America’s National Parks, Liv finds out about the affair and makes it her mission to make him pay for his cheating.
The situation takes an even more sinister turn as they bump into Will’s colleague Cara (Ashley Benson), the woman he is having an affair with, and her boyfriend Garth (Eric Balfour).
The drama premiers on September 15 and consists of six episodes in total.
Prior to the ongoing WGA & SAG-AFTRA strikes, Jenna spoke of how women will be able to relate to how Liv is feeling throughout the series.
“It feels like a story about womanhood but within that, an exploration of being pushed to breaking point,” she explained.
The actress went on to add: “So many female members of the crew said to me, ‘I’ve felt like that.’
“It’s going to be interesting to see how viewers react to things that feel extreme but familiar.”
Wilderness is available to watch now on Prime Video.
