It said: “Amanda Abbington is unable to continue in Strictly Come Dancing and has decided to withdraw from the competition.

“The show wishes her all the best for the future,” it concluded.

Rumours about the actress potentially calling it a day on the BBC show had been swirling ever since Amanda and Giovanni were forced to pull out of last weekend’s live show.

Hosts Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly opened Saturday night’s show by saying Amanda was unable to perform due to medical reasons.

Despite Amanda’s absence, Giovanni still appeared on the episode and seemed to enjoy watching the other couples perform.

The pair were supposed to perform a Cha Cha Cha to the song Canned Heat by Jamiroquai.

On Sunday’s result show, comedian Eddie Kadi and his dance partner Karen Hauer were eliminated after a tough dance-off with Zara McDermott and Graziano Di Prima.

All four judges were in favour of saving Zara and Graziano, leading to Eddie and Karen saying their goodbyes and leaving the dancing show for good.
