EastEnders airs special flashforward scene for Christmas 2023
EastEnders’ Christmas 2023 is set to be the least merry yet with explosive storylines including a winter murder whodunnit.
Last year’s Christmas plot may have seen Mick Carter’s (played by Danny Dyer) dramatic exit where he disappeared at sea, but this year could see a deadly fire, Dean Wicks’ (Matt Di Angelo) comeback, and a dead body.
While the exact details of what to expect haven’t been confirmed by the BBC, according to TV insiders the legendary Albert Square venue Kathy’s café will go up in smoke after being engulfed by a deadly blaze.
Characters will reportedly be fearing for their lives in dramatic scenes as the fire spreads rapidly through the building.
What the soap has teased is that some Albert Square favourites will face huge repercussions in the aftermath.

The questions of who or what causes the fire, with it believed to be deliberate, will also be raised.
In upcoming episodes, Bernadette “Bernie” Taylor (Clair Norris) is seen struggling when the fuse box blows in the café.
Has this caused the fire as Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) couldn’t afford to pay a professional to fix it?
Earlier this year, the soap released a first look at the 2023 Christmas episode in a flashforward scene where Denise (Diane Parish), Kathy, Linda (Kellie Bright), Sharon (Letitia Dean), Stacey (Lacey Turner), and Suki (Balvinder Sopal) found a dead body at what looked like a Christmas party at the Queen Vic.

The women, who are all dressed up, are seen looking shocked in the pub as the mystery man lies dead on the floor.
The group is largely silent as Stacey is covered in blood, Denise holds a broken Champagne bottle and Sharon is in a bloodied wedding dress as she leans over the body and declares, “he’s dead”.
Fans have gone into overdrive with speculation over who the Christmas casualty could be with Keanu Taylor (played by Danny Walters), Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden), Nish Panesar (Navin Chowdry), Ravi Gulati (Aaron Thiara), Theo Hawthorne (William Ellis), and Dean Wicks (Matt DiAngelo) all in the mix.
The whodunnit aside, there’s also set to be a shock return.
Dean is believed to be returning to the soap. Actor Matt Di Angelo’s comeback was accidentally leaked by a co-star in a backstage TikTok video.
Fans spotted Matt, 36, in the background of the clip. This comes amid viewer speculation that Dean, who is Linda’s rapist and former brother-in-law, would be back for the Christmas whodunnit.
While the soap is yet to confirm Dean’s return, upcoming spoilers show Linda will be stunned by something she discovers as she’s supported by her family.
EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
